Kejiwaan Days in Santa Barbara & Palo Alto

Our Regional helpers were again on the move in recent months, visiting Santa Barbara on the weekend of April 15 and Palo Alto the weekend of May 5th. Both events were well attended and drew members from other locations.  In Santa Barbara about 25 people came and in Palo Alto about 50 people came.

Both groups enjoyed latihan, testing and socializing, and in Palo Alto there was a special birthday celebration for Roanna Clark at Kenneth and Fatijah Clark’s home following the keijwaan day at the Palo Alto Center.

Walnut Creek Center Moves to Reduce Hunger

Dear Brothers and Sisters

Probably some of us don’t realize that the most serious problem driving people into the streets in Venezuela is the severe lack of food. People are hungry. They are beginning to starve.

Through Trina Frometa, the daughter of one of the Subud families there, we came to know just how desperate they are. Her own family has hosted the latihan for the Caracas group since the beginning of Subud there. It was her home where Bapak stayed when he visited, and where Prio and his children came.

Their situation has touched us deeply and we have started a project to send a relief food shipment to the Subud 15 families (37 people) who are in Caracas. Between the Palo Alto and Walnut Creek members, we have collected over $700 towards this effort. I am proud to say that we will be sending 529 pounds of food to Venezuela: 185 lbs. of rice, 296 lbs. of black beans, 37 lbs. of lentils and10 lbs. of powdered milk for the children.

The food began its journey by ship from Miami to Caracas in June 30th, and will take about 4 weeks to get there. The cost of shipping is relatively modest. The food has been repackaged in plain boxes so it will not recognizable when it is delivered. When it arrives the members will take selfies with the contents and send them to us, so we can share in the arrival. What a happy day that will be for all of us!

Trina Frometa was opened last week in Walnut Creek and is now our newest sister. You can meet her at the Regional Congress in Santa Barbara. She is a dancer and is working in a new dance program for people with Parkinson’s.

Last night, Emmanuel Williams began the process of perhaps further support when he asked “could we send more”?

We invite anyone who would like to join our ongoing relief effort to send donations to Walnut Creek’s Treasurer: Rahima Warren, 3270 Theresa Lane, Lafayette, Ca 94549.  Please earmark as: Venezuela food project.

We would love to have you join us in this effort to support our Brothers and Sisters in Venezuela. Maybe you could send us selfies, too, to include in our letters to Caracas.

With gratitude for help already given and for future help,

Henrietta Haines

News from Seven Circles Retreat Center

Dear Subud Members,

We would like to share with you a brief update as to our Seven Circles Retreat Center. We are now in our 14th year of operation as a non-profit Corporation led by Subud members on the Board of Directors and by a very capable management team on the ground.

Over the last two years, our Managers, Chris Caldwell and Jim Trvalian, have overseen a steady progression of Retreat and Family group bookings, making the activities of Seven Circles vibrant and varied. We now have many repeat groups, including three Yoga centers and the local Camp Badger two week program for local youth.

For those around California and beyond who have donated their funds or their time, or both, we want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.  Please visit our website here:  http://www.sevencirclesretreat.org

We do hope you can come for a visit or family gathering someday soon.  Below are a couple of examples of recent events at Seven Circles.

With thanks,

Paul Edwards, Chairman of the Board of Seven Circles Retreat Center (formerly with  Subud CA at Los Angeles, now in Vancouver, CA)

Examples of Retreats at Seven Circles

  1.  Bodhi Path Pasadena annual retreat

The Bodhi Path Meditation and Yoga group comes here every year and we feel they are part of the family. The group includes a very interesting group of Buddhist followers who meditate in a Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

In the Seven Circles main lodge, a Buddha statue sits proudly in a prominent location where meditation mats are neatly lined up. The yurt at Seven Circles is a pivotal part of the group’s chanting, praying and meditation. There are mats on the floor and a faint incense aroma wafts in from the outside. A gong sounds from time to time.

Last visit, Bodhi path group went to the Sequoia National Park with the managers of Seven Circles for a day outing. We all enjoyed the tall trees, the wonders of nature, and had a wonderful picnic in the forest. Before eating, we all gathered around the bank of a river Lodgepole, and sent a loving prayer for peace on earth – the prayer went down the river and into the oceans, spreading across the world.

We are looking forward to another wonderful meditation group visit from them!

2. The Young Jains West Coast Retreat

The Young Jains West Coast group had their annual retreat at Seven Circles this year, and 37 young women and men convened to share ideas and build relationships around the Jains mission.

They were busy most of the time during their stay filled up with meetings in the main lodge, but also had some free time to exercise, play some games and relax. The yurt at Seven Circles served as a place for yoga practice in the mornings.

We were so pleased to host the Young Jains West Coast with their first retreat with us. They were very conscientious with their surroundings and kept the place beautiful and spread their happy and youthful spirit throughout the space.

Nancy Hawaiian Huynh

Nancy is a Wellness & Energy Coach and Massage Therapist (CMT #26259).  Coming from a 4th generation lineage of eastern medicine providers, she is multi-faceted in her approach to mind-body wellness for a customized experience. She treats the whole person by using a variety of massage and mindfulness-based intention techniques that help to relieve constriction, regain movement, and to improve quality of life-energy flow.

ReHarmonize Body flow: incorporates acupressure and Swedish massage to release muscular tension by applying long, gentle flow movements. It includes EMF balancing and use of Biosyntonie to enhance physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. Environmental harmonization devices realign biorhythmic functions with nature’s subtle energetic cycles. Simultaneous work with breath reduces stress, oxygenates blood, cleanses and brings attunement into the body.

Active ReBalance Body Qi: includes a mixture of pressure to trigger points and intention-based positional stretching exercises with slow invigorating techniques to the core of the muscle. This calms the nervous system, increases the flushing of toxins through the lymphatic system, and opens up the body through the manipulation of the body’s fascia. This technique slowly works through deep layers of tissue to release years of tension and restrictions.  Schedule an appointment: (408) 459-9355 | nancy@stillpointempowerment.com  | Instagram – ms.hawaiian10
