California Congress to be an arts spectacular in the desert – Aug 29 to Sep 1, 2014

Joshua tree sunsetThe Subud California Congress, which will be held this year on Labor Day Weekend (Aug 29 to Sep 1, 2014) will be a  multimedia arts spectacular in the desert at the new and improved Joshua Tree Retreat Center.

We are working to make this a fun, different and accessible event for everyone. Kids stay for free, there will be a wide variety of accommodations ranging from Frank Lloyd Wright cottages to camping in the new campgrounds, and activities to suit every taste.

Come join us, and share your personal expression at this brave new congress – offer a workshop, share your music , build an outdoor art installation, tell a story: add a piece of your inner light to the glow. Contact us at cal congress [at] gmail.com or at our individual emails below.

Message from Ethan Harris, Congress Team

What I remember about my youth in Subud was great camps and outdoor gatherings filled with arts, music, and families. My hope would be to have a gathering which is accessible to all income levels, and which celebrates Arts and Music in a way which is attractive to members, non-members, and potentially put on events for outsiders as well. Lets make it Subud California’s Music and Arts Festival gathering. Lets also draw travelers up from the Subud World Congress in Mexico which will have ended 10 days before our gathering. Joshua Tree Retreat Center is right next to National Parks, has a NEW POOL, new giant HOT TUB, air-conditioned rooms, and a new concrete outdoor stage at the on site amphitheater! Lets rock Joshua Tree and make an event which would be worthy of inviting old and new friends to check out a Subud Gathering.

Report from Michael Menduno and Renata Reid, Congress Team, March 27, 2014:

We visited the site for our 2014 regional congress this week. The Joshua Tree Retreat Center is more beautiful than ever. Among other things, there is a brand new pool, a yoga pad and camping sites. If you’ve never been to the desert, this is the way to do it.
