A fascinating line-up of short films awaits you at the start of the Regional Congress on Labor Day weekend. The Friday Film Fest will showcase short features and documentaries, plus trailers for films produced and directed by Subud members. The complete list is still evolving but here is a taste of what awaits:
- Harold Hitchcock: Life in Light, Ra’up McGee’s documentary about the British artist
- The Soft Warrior Nina Menkes short film
- How I Survived the Sixties, Pilar Walsh’s “sizzle reel,” a precursor for a future full length film
- Trailers for Matthew Cooke’s full length documentary, How to Make Money Selling Drugs, and for his other works in progress
- Hanuman Airlines: Fly Over Everest, Hamilton Pevec’s documentary (or another work by him)
- The Eternal Rhythm: A Global Revelation of Drum, Dance & Song, a documentary by Pilar Walsh.
The Friday Film Fest is being brought to life by Pilar Walsh, a Subud member who recently moved back to the LA area after a little more than two years on the East coast. During her career, Pilar has been an actress, singer, writer, producer and dancer, and she is now immersed in film making. With her passion for the medium and her knowledge of Subud artists, she is creating an exciting program that truly has something for everyone. Her website offers more details about her background and experience.
The films range from a few minutes to about 20 minutes each, and total screening time will be about 2 hours. There will be time for Q&A and discussion after the screening, as well. It will be an evening filled with inspiration and vivid experience that will set the stage for the weekend to come.
