Following the Regional Congress in July, I came up with the idea of a Subud “mini-prise”. The idea is to work for Subud within the context of my regular work with the goal of donating the money I made that day to Subud
On August 7th
On and off, I paid attention to whether it would feel different to work for Subud in this way as opposed to working to make money for our family. I can’t say that I noticed a difference. It was a little stressful managing the three lessons in one day in conjunction with my own family’s schedule. A feeling of stress does no favors for my attitude towards the tasks at hand, but once I am with my students and focused on their learning, I feel very calm and can focus easily and understand each student’s needs. I’d say that both the scheduling challenge and the ease with which I can teach once I have arrived, are not affected by for whom I am making the money. But, it gives a very satisfying feeling to be able to contribute.
Between the three lessons, I collected $340. My childcare cost was covered by another Subud Santa Barbara member, and I spent around $20 on travel (using the IRS guideline of 58 cents per mile). So, the net result for Subud was $320. I just now sent that amount to Subud CA though their ‘Donate’ button on subudcalifornia.org.
It’s not a huge amount compared to the needs of the Region but I am thinking that 1) it is great, because it was what I was able to do at this time and 2) if others also happened to be interested in doing something similar within their own line of work then over time the increased support could be significant for the Subud CA Region, your local group, Subud USA, WSA or whichever part of Subud you may choose to support.
If this mini-prise idea appeals to you, simply do it!
