An incredible concert of latin and jazz music awaits you on Saturday evening at the California Regional Congress, with two great performing groups. The evening opens the LMR Soul Jazz Band, featuring Laksar Reese performing swinging standards with gospel roots and latin jazz. Immediately following is the sensational Iliana Rose Cuban Band, with her unique piano and vocal style blending Cuban and jazz melodies for a special and engaging performance.
Admission is included with registration for the Regional Congress. There will be a $12.00 admission fee for the general public or Subud members coming just for the concert. You won’t want to miss this exciting night of music and entertainment, presented by the Subud International Cultural Association, and sure to be one of the highlights of the Regional Congress.
About Iliana Rose
An accomplished piano player, percussionist, clarinetist and vocalist, Iliana performs with her band and sits in with some of the finest session players in Los Angeles and Miami. She sings jazz and pop in six languages including English, Spanish, Italian, French, Hebrew and Portuguese. Her pure, warm voice has the unique phrasing ability of a natural born jazz singer.
Born in Miami, she grew up steeped in Cuban rhythms and culture. Playing piano from the age of four, her music studies culminated with a double major at the University of Miami in Studio Music & Jazz Voice and in Clarinet Performance.
Now living in Los Angeles, she also composes music for films, arranges songs for large Latin jazz bands, works as a recording engineer, producer, lyricist, as the voice behind several radio commercials and the piano player on the TV show “Noches Con Platanito.” Find out more about Iliana at her website.
Iliana’s husband and manager, David Zasloff (LA Subud) performs with her band. He is a multi-instrumentalist jazz vocalist and comedian who has performed in a wide variety of venues throughout the United States including nightclubs, theaters and comedy festivals. His instruments include Japanese shakuhachi flute, trumpet, shofar, piano, percussion and guitar. Find out more about David at his website.
About Laksar Reese
Laksar (LA Subud) is a Los Angeles-based saxophonist/flautist, as well as a bandleader, composer, arranger & business owner. He tours with the Chuchito Valdes Afro-Cuban ensemble and leads his straight-ahead jazz ensembles on tenor/soprano saxophone and flute. He has performed worldwide, touring the USA, Australia, Mexico and Cuba.
He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Music Performance from Cornish College in Seattle, WA, where he studied with some of the great jazz masters, such as Hadley Caliman (saxophone), Julian Priester (composition and arranging) and Paul Taub (flute).
