Memories of Skymont, #3

by Raina Snyder, Subud Santa Cruz

I have many fond memories of Skymont. I loved living and working in the restaurant and the camp kitchen. Awake on long nights with beautiful music…Rayner De Michael playing the trumpet…as angels danced about.

It was wonderful to participate in the birthing of the Skymont babies. It felt to me that all the Skymont children were totally beloved by the community at large.

I am going to share a creation from Lewis Arquette; I believe this will give you insight into an unpredictable lifestyle that was inspiring.

In 1969, my family and some friends participated in the founding of an intentional community in northern Virginia on the Shenandoah River. It was called “Skymont”.  This is a poem from that period.

(Oft on a misty morning)
When Winter, like sadness,
Is over.
Oft on a misty morning
dew drops mirror
the brightness of my heart.”
