Nepal Earthquake Relief through AOMAA

AOMAA, a charitable organization, is initiating a project to help Subud brother Hamilton Pevec do small scale urgent response work in Katmandu. We need your help! Please go to the AOMAA website HERE for details on how you can support this vital work.

The American Overseas Medical Aid Association (AOMAA) was started by Subud member Muhammad Laksar Laurence Rattay in 1962 to send medical goods and equipment  to physicians overseas. This all-volunteer organization has received awards for service year after year, due to its focus on small scale, steady projects in collaboration with local people.
Recovery from any devastating disaster is long, hard and expensive. Long after the international aid community leaves, there will be much to do. So, we intend a “One-to-One” project, working with a group of young professionals in Nepal to form a local non-profit. We did this after the tsunami in Indonesia with great success over the following 5 years.
We  hope to work collaboratively, with culturally sensitive components unique to Nepal. Hamilton Pevec (son of Subud member Ilene Pevec) lives in a rural area in Nepal doing a permaculture project. Ilene also has a neighbor from Nepal whose daughter is a young medical student in Nepal. With these contacts, we will build a program with an ever enlarging circle of love and service, extending to thousands.
As AOMAA President and Acting Executive Director, I am setting up the project office. We can all contribute to the project’s success over time, through both money and administrative support work. DONATIONS can be sent straight to Hamilton to provide funds shelter, food, clothing and medical care for earthquake survivors. No overhead, no deduction.
Bapak said in a talk one night that this is the way to do social service work. He called AOMAA “usaha mulia”, meaning “bright shining golden light.” He meant AOMAA was performing charitable work initiated from receiving in the latihan, and by receiving in the midst of the everyday actions that lead to improvement of the lives of those in need.
Please contact me, if you feel moved to help. I have a list of things to do and roles to play, large and small. I hope you will choose to be included.
Sending love to the people of Nepal,
Lucia
