Patrick Morgan, who served as Executive Director for Subud USA from 1985 to 1990, passed away recently.
Patrick Morgan
He lived in both California and Washington. He was working on a memoir, as he notes in his message below, sent to Rifka Several not long before he died:
“I have asked that God guide me as I go through my life and that seems to work out fine. But since my last experience with “testing” was simply Rashad Tarantino testing if I should do latihan, he received no after I already knew it was no. Based on my experience in latihan that so much movement was harmful to me physically, I have learned to just do sitting or lying down, getting quiet and receiving as my capacity allows.
I am almost done with River of Dreams, a book I call “A Spiritual Memoir” which includes short adventures that I have published in Emmanuel Elliots Reminder of Reality and some other small publications. It weaves dreams, visions and earthly experiences together in a way that shows how healing can occur through the unconscious and subconscious so that people who have experienced trauma can make peace with their journey. Plus the early tales of the late 80’s and early 90’s where Our Lady Mary guided me to open the thrift store to help children with HIV/AIDS. We opened a business with no capital and it was successful because the community came together and supported it for 2-3 years and then it was done. “
This commentary on his life was included in the latest “Reminders of Reality”:
“…and may Almighty God also bless our brother Patrick Morgan, who – I am sad to say – recently died at his home in California. He would have been 65 this month. Although we never actually met, our association goes back many decades, and he was a regular contributor to Reminders. Back in the 1980s he managed the SUSA national office. He was a very caring and creative person – a dancer, an artist and also a writer. I had been looking forward to reviewing his spiritual memoir River of Dreams, which includes such highlights as an extended period of guidance from Our Lady the Mother of Jesus as well as accounts of his world travels and frequent insights into his deep connection with animals and the natural world. I am still hoping to track down a pdf of Patrick’s book, and if successful I will be happy to share it with you to honour his memory.”
Please do share any remembrances of Patrick that you may have here.

This is a remembrance of Patrick from Lauren DuMond:
Though I went to UC Santa Cruz and hung out with Patrick at that time – (70’s), I lost touch, moving to NY after graduation. I remember Patrick’s great sense of humor and great laugh. A smart sweet guy, he moved with grace and lightness. There was a small group of young people in Subud who lived in a funky apartment building by the beach. It was almost like a dorm – with a series of tiny apartments overflowing with surfers, students, and other colorful characters. It was a lot of fun to hang out together.
Very sad to hear of him passing – I had wondered about him over the years
This is a remembrance of Patrick from Miftah Leath:
I connected Patrick when he lived in Emeryville and was doing financial stuff. He was just beginning to revisit his dancing. I remember what a dear soul he was, with a good sense of humor and what I saw as a sterling work ethic.
I just ran across this after Googling Patrick as I plan a trip home this month to CA from the east. He and I were dorm mates at UCSC, lived downtown with others in Bennett’s Fourth Way/Subud funky (now torn down) house in the 70’s. We hung out again some during his Seattle era. We were 18 year-old deep seekers together and saw God in each other back then. I turned 65 this week. Have lived in New England for 40 years now and latihan in the woods of Massachusetts. Thank you for sharing this sad news of the passing of a beautiful soul and very dear old friend.
