The Los Angeles Center has approximately 100 members. We have 5 male helpers & 2 ladies.
We have Latihan on Monday, Tuesday (Topanga), Thursday Evenings and Saturday Mornings. Our Latihans are well attended with:
- Monday Men 15 / Women 10
- Thursday Men 12 / Women 10
- Saturday Men 30 / Women 20
We have had several opening in the last months:
The men are: Carl Young, Adel ?, Stanley ?, and Matthew Burns. And God willing, we will soon welcome candidates Barney & Alex.
Our committee is now complete will all positions filled. We have also hired a bookkeeper, a Subud member who is being paid $450 per month for her duties. Our financial picture is much clearer now and we have even showing a profit the last month. We should have our loan to the region paid off in the early fall.
The 3rd Saturday of the month is usually our general meeting and birthday celebrations. August was the 4th Saturday as the World Congress was still going on.
Our beloved long time member Latif Marotti has had to move to San Diego due to poor health. He is much closer now to his brother and the San Diego Center Helpers are looking in on him.
We are considering buying a brick for the Washington DC Center. One of our members has a school supplies & enrichment charity project SLA supports.
Our rentals are improving and we have secured a long term tenant, CHANGE R US. They are the same group that rents from the SNYC Center. They are paying us $1,000 for 1 5-day week per month from 9-5. We have a total of 14 AA groups renting now. The proposal for a master tenant who had a Subud member as part of the enterprise has been withdrawn by the tenant.
Many small vexing issues are getting worked out such as lost mail being found and straightened out. We have also succeeded in opening our own PayPal account.
New business:
Copy Seattle, DC and Portland, OR for rental marketability. Their reports at the World congress impressed our membership. One strategy is renaming the building. This would help the public know it was available for rentals. This has been done with other centers. One example would be “Wilshire Hall”. Overnights not possible (air bed), this is due to lack of in the bathrooms showers and rental management issues.
